QUEEN of clubs Emma Duggleby and tough of the track Steve Webster have snapped up a coveted sporting honours.

The awards were held in conjunction with the BBC Sports Awards in the North which were held at the Harrogate Conference Centre last night.

Malton and Norton Golf Club ace Duggleby was named Sport England's regional women's sports star while sidecar world champion Webster was named Radio York's sports personality of the year.

Easingwold-based Webster won a record-breaking ninth championship, while Duggleby was crowned English Ladies Open Amateur champion and was a member of the winning Vagliano Trophy team against Europe when she triumphed in all her matches as GB and Ireland won for the first time in 13 years.

Pickering's Richard Buck (Nestl Rowntree AC), the fastest 16-year-old 400m runner this year, was short-listed for the Sport England Junior Boy award which went to Leeds javelin thrower Sam Allan.

Other Sport England Yorkshire award winners were: Senior male - Dougie Lampkin (Bradford, motorcycle trials), Junior girl - Kathryn Doherty (Halifax, cricket), Senior team - Yorkshire men's tennis team, Junior team - Wakefield Girls Tumbling team, Disability award - Catherine Mitton (Leeds, table tennis).

Other BBC regional award winners included: Yorkshire sports personality - Jamie Peacock (Bradford Bulls RL Club), team - Bradford Bulls, manager/coach - Brian Noble (Bradford Bulls), sporting achievement - Sheffield United, Hall of fame - John Charles (Leeds United)
