DERBY duels are often close tense affairs and York RI's Yorkshire Three game at Pocklington was all of that, with only Kevin Bowling's second penalty for the home side proving the difference at the final whistle.
Although having the lion's share of the play in the first half, all Pocklington could muster was a Bowling penalty on the half hour as RI tackled resolutely and used the trusty boot of Matthew Yates to relieve the pressure.
Strong runs from Ashman, Nash and Thomas allowed RI to venture into the home side's half and as half-time approached a more even game unfolded.
A Thomas penalty brought the sides level and at this point it was anybody's game. Both sides created and then missed chances as play swung from end to end.
Pocklington edged in front on the hour mark when RI were penalised for handling on the floor, giving Bowling his second penalty.
RI pressed hard and had penalty opportunities but both fell short and Pocklington were left 6-3 victors.
