MIDFIELD linchpin Mitch Ward looks like missing out on the trip to Leyton Orient on Saturday.
A thigh strain ruled the former Everton and Sheffield United schemer out of last Saturday's 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers, the first time Ward has missed a League game this season.
The experienced campaigner has undergone treatment all week and although he is close to a full recovery City player-boss Chris Brass indicated he is unlikely to rush Ward back too soon.
Brass was keeping his cards close to his chest as to his likely starting line-up but with Ward ruled out Stephen Brackstone is almost certain to retain his place in the centre of midfield.
Indeed, Brass is expected to keep faith with the players who started last Saturday's derby win over Rovers with one exception.
The only change could be up front, with on-loan Sheffield Wednesday starlet Jon Shaw expected to oust Gary Browne in attack.
Browne performed well on his Football League debut last Saturday, but Shaw caught the eye immediately in his second half substitute appearance.
The young striker also scored twice in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Mansfield Town in midweek, suggesting Brass has signed a striker bang in form.
"Jon actually only played 45 minutes but scored twice and that obviously pleased me," said Brass.
"Both Gary and Jon know where the goal is, that is for sure, and that is something we have been lacking.
"Hopefully, we have now found the answer."
The City chief has added Richard Cooper to his squad after sitting out last Saturday's derby encounter through suspension.
The utility player will probably have to be satisfied with a place on the bench.
However, Brass may decide on a more cautious approach away from home and could install the more defensive-minded Cooper in midfield in place of Brackstone.
Christian Fox also played the full 90 minutes against Mansfield in midweek with a delighted Brass believing the midfielder's injury problems are now behind him.
"It is just a matter of getting his fitness levels back up," said the City player-boss.
