UNION Rovers shocked fellow RJF Homes Beckett Football League pace-setters Sinnington 2-1 to reach the second round of the Scarborough and District FA Junior Cup.
Goals by Chris Cooke and Peter Tiffney gave Union, who went into the tie as second division leaders, a tense victory. Paul Clapham netted for Sinners, who headed the division one table before the clash.
Cooke opened the scoring on 28 minutes when he headed in a Stuart Young cross. The hosts doubled their lead on 63 minutes when Tiffney beat two defenders before firing in from 15 yards.
Sinnington pulled one on 80 minutes after Joe Turnbull teed up Clapham and, despite Malcolm Hunter's dismissal for a professional foul, they had several chances to equalise in the closing stages.
A 3-2 win at Pickering Royal Oak saw unbeaten Kirkdale take advantage of Sinnington's cup involvement to go top of division one.
Goals from Ian Prendergast and Chris Simpson put the new leaders 2-0 up at half-time. Prendergast then netted his second before Royal Oak fought back with goals from Nick Wilkinson and Daman Cox despite Lee Allardice's red card.
Rosedale earned a point against Kirkbymoorside Reserves with an equaliser deep in stoppage time.
Stewart Dowson fired in an unstoppable 20-yard shot after Ben Adamson had floated in a free-kick. The Moorsiders had earlier taken the lead through Andrew Ferguson.
Thornton-Le-Dale enjoyed their first league win of the season by defeating Malton thirds 5-1. Mike Lealman did the damage against his old club, scoring four, with Will Dunnett also netting. Malton's late consolation came from Tom Payley.
Jack Colman and Matt Dzierzek scored in Duncombe Park's 2-1 win over Black Swan, Pickering.
In division two, Heslerton Rovers are now top after a 2-0 win over Carlton United thanks to an own goal and Wayne Pilmoor's effort. Pilmoor has played in goal for seven weeks but left his position between the sticks for the last 20 minutes to give regular 'keeper Gareth Driver a run-out after his lengthy injury.
A goal by French debutant Benoit Filar on the hour earned Coxwold a 1-0 win over Slingsby.
Ryedale Sports Club's first league win of the season, a shock 1-0 defeat of Gillamoor, was delivered by Sean Dixon's fifth goal in as many games.
Kevin Stockhill, Damian Turner and Dave Wallinger all bagged braces in Bagby and Balk's 8-4 win over Ampleforth with Colin Casey and Kevin Wright the other marksmen.
