A BUS lane at a York Park&Ride site has been given the go-ahead by councillors.
Members of City of York Council's planning and transport east area sub-committee approved plans to introduce a bus lane at either side of the entrance to Shipton Road Park&Ride site last night.
The new lanes will not operate 24 hours a day, but can only be accessed by buses during peak hours. The situation will be reviewed after a 12 month trial period.
Councillors made their decision to stop motorists using the site as a through-road to the A1237 to avoid queues at the junction between the A19 and the A1237.
Drivers using the Park&Ride site had caused delays to the bus service and some cars had been speeding through the site.
Vehicles turning right into the Park&Ride site had also caused delays to motorists travelling out of town.
