A YORK shelter for cats is looking for loving families to adopt a feline friend - and not just for Christmas.

The Cats Protection Shelter, in Huntington, currently has 40 cats looking for new homes.

Shelter manager James Hodgkinson is urging anyone seriously considering a new addition to their household this Christmas to consider giving a new start to one of these animals.

James said: "Our cats tend to be older, but we ensure they are completely fit and healthy before they leave us.

"Anyone interested in adopting a cat should get in touch as soon as possible, as we stop rehousing them in the few weeks before Christmas."

All prospective owners are thoroughly vetted by the charity before they can take away a cat.

The charity will hold a winter fair at Huntington Community Centre, from 11am to 2pm, on Saturday, with a host of Christmas gift ideas, crafts, and a raffle.

The shelter will also be open to the public from 11am to 3pm, but anyone interested in adopting a cat can pop in at any time or phone staff on 01904 760356.
