IBY Knill is an inspiration. This wartime Resistance fighter and Auschwitz survivor went on to enjoy a distinguished career in England.
Thirty years ago she undertook an open university degree. Today, at 80, she has completed an MA at York St John College, and was one of hundreds of students at the degree ceremony at the Minster.
Mrs Knill has experienced far more in her lifetime than most of us. Yet she retains a hunger for knowledge. She epitomises the astonishing range of students and courses in York, and is the most marvellous example of lifelong learning.
