DELIBERATIONS by City of York Council continue to show what has become regular duplicity of thought. I refer in this instance to the proposed new sports ground on the outer ring road at Clifton Moor.

This land has been earmarked as "green belt", no development will take place which will affect the standing of that land (what - not even a sports ground with minimal construction of club house/changing facilities?) and because any development will affect the view of the Minster.

How the siting of a cricket pitch consisting of three stumps and two bails, with a similar construction some 22 yards away, will affect the view of the Minster defies description.

At the same time, this council is considering a "small" development in the Huntington area on land which is given over to agrarian use even if not designated "green belt", which will involve the construction of more than 600 houses, the major extension of the commercial area to the north of Monks Cross, the possible further development of Huntington Stadium to accommodate York City FC, and the construction of the latest Park and Ride site.

None of which, of course, will have any impact on the view of the Minster.

Hopefully, Coun Reid and her cronies will use the same standards when addressing the Huntington issues as they have in dealing with the Civil Service Sports Club. But I doubt it.
