REGARDING the issue of diverting traffic down Kingsway North or Water Lane (November 10), this must be an absolute no-no. The traffic is already bumper to bumper every morning and evening, including weekends, and more so when York City are playing at home.
Money from the regeneration fund was spent on the central reservation to give children somewhere to play safely, and even today after being re-vamped it is still highly dangerous.
Parents who do reluctantly allow their children to play on this area do so with the constant worry that one day their child will be knocked down and seriously injured or killed by speeding motorists and joyriders who use this route both day and night.
This will not only affect Kingsway North and Water Lane but the whole of Clifton, so I urge the people of Clifton to contact their local councillors, one of whom, Coun Alan Jones, lives in Kingsway North.
Councillors must get off their backsides and earn their expenses and the respect of the Clifton residents by doing what they were elected to do - look after our interests.
Peter Scholes,
Water Lane,
