JOSEPH Rowntree School's year seven rugby league team put on a brave performance in the regional round of the Yorkshire Water-sponsored schools RL competition before bowing out to strong opposition from Hull.
Jo Ro had qualified through the area phase of the competition, which doubles as the regional round of the Champion Schools tournament, to take on two schools from Hull with a strong tradition of RL, David Lister High and Endeavour High.
Strong running, superb passing out of the tackle and a spirited scramble defence led to Joseph Rowntree beating David Lister School in an end-to-end encounter 20-16.
Joseph Rowntree then went into their second game but, despite playing well, lost 16-0 to a well drilled and physically bigger Endeavour side, who went on to secure their progress with a 20-8 win over David Lister.
