Selby lost their derby battle with Goole 17-10 as they paid the price for an abysmal first-half performance.
Stand-off James Ruhmann's early penalty fired Goole in front and two minutes later prop Ollie White thundered over for a try converted by Ruhmann.
Goole conceded 23 penalties in the match to Selby's nine and included a yellow card for White for tripping.
However, Selby were unable to take advantage of their resultant extra man and Goole increased their lead in the 35th minute when a weak clearance kick out of defence from Tony Godfrey was easily charged down resulting in Goole hooker Darren Moore scoring the simplest of tries near the posts. Ruhmann kicked the conversion to make it 14-0.
Toby Pemberton missed two kickable penalties - the second hitting a post - but the home side got their reward when Pemberton's short kick through the Goole backs resulted in winger Paul Scott scoring an unconverted try
Selby piled on the pressure but could not turn it into points. The closest they came was when another Scott touchdown was ruled out because he touched the corner flag on his way over.
Goole made the most of the escape and in a rare foray into Selby territory won a penalty in front of the posts which Rhumann gratefully accepted.
Selby weren't quite finished yet and took play back to the Goole five-metre line where Goole once again transgressed. The resultant tap penalty gave scrum-half Matthew Smith a trademark try which Pemberton once again failed to improve.
But it proved too little too late and Goole won the precious league points and also became the first winners of the Tommy Burton Trophy.
