WHILE I welcome the Lord Mayor's support call for the annual poppy appeal (Letters, November 4), I wonder if our society is not actually insulting our veterans in the process.
After all, did people truly fight for a country that would have Royal British Legion branches banning the use of pins with poppies for fear of people suing after injuring themselves on the pins?
If readers know of a country where some degree of common-sense still rules, people accept responsibilities as well as rights, and the police enforce the laws so petty criminals do not become major criminals, I welcome suggestions.
