POLICE and firefighters in York were today attempting to free a lorry laden with sweets and chocolate from Walmgate Bar.
Officers were helping the driver deflate tyres of his Leyland DAF truck, which became wedged at about 11.30am.
Driver Paul Heap, 25, from Bradford, said he thought the seven-tonne vehicle would make it through the historic monument.
He said: "I thought I could squeeze it through. Then I just heard this loud bang and it was stuck. I put my foot down, but it wouldn't budge."
"I'll definitely think twice about going through something like this again!"
PC Rob Thorpe said if the vehicle could not be moved by letting tyres completely down, firefighters would have to cut part of the top section of the lorry away.
He said: "We might have to cut elements of the lorry away. We'd rather leave the vehicle needing repairs than the bar."
