The top of the table clash in the York Evening Chess League second division was won by RI Kings, after they defeated Shepherds 2 4-2.
Ewan Cameron and Owen Robson both won quickly for the Kings to put the pressure on Shepherds. James Carpenter took advantage of a blunder by his opponent to put Kings 3-0 ahead, and comfortable draws for Martin Carpenter and John Lafferty put the result beyond doubt. Jim Hewitt recovered from a poor position to win on bottom board for Shepherds.
Several York players took part in the recent Hull congress. The best result was achieved by Steve Webster in the minor section, where he scored 4/5. Bill Fulton scored 1/5 in the same section. In the Open, Tim Turner scored 3/5, Tony Slinger 2/5 and P Peck 2. Jon Griffith scored 3/5 in the Major, while Norman Andrews(3/5) and Barry Taylor(2/5) played in the Intermediate.
