THIS seven-year-old North Yorkshire girl who climbed up Ingleborough and Whernside peaks to raise money for a school development was given the honour of opening the building.
Hannah Williams, left, took part in the walks as part of a £19,000 fundraising drive for the early learning centre at Aspin Park School, Knaresborough.
She helped the chairwoman of the Parent and Teacher Association, Zoe Whitby, cut the ribbon at a ceremony.
The project was a joint effort involving sponsorship from local firms, parents, the PTA and the school. The new facility includes climbing equipment, a sand tray, wobble board, storage shed and grassed area.
King James's School pupils helped by painting outdoor murals, originally designed by the children at Aspin Park.
Head teacher, Peter Kendall, said: "There were all sorts of activities that we needed and wanted to fulfil that we can now do in a safe outdoor environment. I'm delighted with the area, it has worked really well."
