The Dreaming Theatre Production Company, from York, will perform Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol in the first theatrical presentation at York Castle Museum this autumn.
Scott Harrison's new adaptation will be staged on Kirkgate, the re-created Victorian street at the heart of the museum, from November 24 to 29, and then moves on to Pickering Castle, Fountains Abbey, and the Georgian Theatre Royal at Richmond before its return to Kirkgate from December 12 to 20.
Lee York, The Dreaming's creative director, says: "We're keen to explore the opportunities afforded by non-traditional settings for our productions, and thrilled that the York Museums Trust has afforded us the honour of staging the first production here.
"Audiences will experience the play in a truly authentic setting, experiencing the same sights and sounds that Dickens and the characters he created would have recognised. Our script follows the original novel very closely, and the show is a real family alternative to the many pantomimes available this season."
Tickets for the York performances cost £15, with concessions available at £12 for Monday to Thursday shows. Box office: 01904 687687.
