York RI Ladies continued their excellent start to the York Badminton League season with two further wins - a 7-2 home success over Clifton followed by an 8-1 downing of Drax.
Heather Powell and Joyce Petch put in the best Institute display in the match against Clifton. Their return of 9-29 included a 7 and 8 over Karen Broster and Shelagh Barker, who took both Clifton successes.
Sheila Fixter and Wendy Arnold put in the best Pocklington display as their team beat St John's 6-3 in ladies division two. Fixter and Arnold took all three rubbers in straight sets for a total of 92-30. Pippa Riley and Karin Schusch took two Student Teacher wins but lost out 14-17 6-15 to Fixter and Arnold.
York RI also scored two further wins in men's division one, crushing Clifton 8-1 followed by a 9-0 win over Drax. The new pairing of Russell Binns and Tim Jarvis top-scored in the Clifton match with three wins for 90-31, while Ian Shore and Richard McIntosh took the Clifton consolation with a 15-8 17-16 win over Pete Crossland and Mark Harris.
Selby Jubilee 'A' had good fortune in men's two, where they beat a weakened St John's team 9-0. Peter Lund and Neil Richardson had their best return with three straight wins.
Selby Jubilee 'B' visited Shepherds 'B' in men's three and just lost out 4-5. James Barrett and Simon Benson took three Jubilee wins for a total of 102-72. However, Paul Forth and Keith Dixon swung the match for the home team with a 2 and 6 win over Pete Redman and P Mann.
Drax 'B' were good value for a 5-4 win at Rowntrees 'A' in mixed one. It was left to Kate Jackson and Rex Pocklington to clinch the vital last rubber with a 15-12 13-15 15-5 win over Jeff Whittaker and Brenda Drummond.
RI Tuesday/Thursday 'A' kept up their good start to their mixed two season with a 6-3 home win over Shepherds. Best rubber of the match was Chris Hunt and Sue Maddison completing the Institute maximum with a 15-7 9-15 17-15 over Lisa Metcalfe and Sean Ogley. Metcalfe and Ogley were Shepherd's best pairing.
YUSC 'B' made the long trip to Market Weighton 'A' and were rewarded with a 7-2 win. Susan Scott and Gary Turner were the pick of the Staff Club Ladies with three wins for 96-66. Simon Durston and Sue Smith responded well for the home team, being rewarded with a 15-6 17-14 success over Tony Foster and Sheila Mackarel.
Selby Jubilee 'C' scored a 7-2 win at Terrys in mixed six.
Marian Woolforth and James Barrett took the Jubilee honours with three straight wins for 92-51. Judy Wilson and Ian Forman notched both Terry wins, the home pair of Karen and Dave Thompson playing well without success.
