In-form Pickering Town needed extra time last night to overcome Grangetown Boys' Club in the preliminary round of the North Riding FA Senior Cup.
Pikes 'keeper Mark Price let a tame shot slip past him to give the Teesside League champions the lead, but Dean McAuley levelled before half-time with a 25-yarder and Adam Russell finished off a good move in extra-time to send the high-flying Northern Counties East League premier division side through.
Boss Steve Brown, who rested all but three first-team regulars, said: "It was an opportunity for me to look at some younger lads in that environment and I learned a lot. It also gave the boys a taste of what's required at first-team level."
