SUPREME defence underpinned New Earswick All Blacks' 19-0 conquest of Ossett in the Yorkshire League senior division.
It was a workmanlike performance from the hosts, with their rearguard taking all the plaudits to shut out their opponents.
After 12 minutes the All Blacks made their first inroad with a try from acting-half Nigel Tyreman. Carl Pallister added the extras. Soon after, Pallister kicked a penalty for an 8-0 lead which was then momentarily threatened by a rapid break from an Ossett winger only for Dave Carling to halt his progress with a superb tackle.
That spurred on the hosts, who added another try from Mick Harrison, who sold two dummies expertly before going over in the corner. Pallister missed the conversion and the lead stayed at 12-0 at half-time.
Ossett applied stern pressure in the opening stages of the second half, but the defence held firm and the game was sealed when a Harrison drop goal was smartly followed by a Jamie Daniel try goaled by Pallister.
Peter Johnson was man of the match closely followed by Carling.
HEWORTH Under-9s produced a fine all-round display to beat Leeds club Middleton by eight tries to three.
Debutant Spencer Mitchell had a storming game to take the man of the match award.
Billy Legg took the most improved player award with Flannon Naismith topping the tackle count.
Tries for the young Villagers were scored by William Barratt (3), Alex Clough (2), Jack Cregan, Liam Jackson and Daniel Coulson.
Sam Orange scored a hat-trick of tries as York Acorn's U11s drew 18-18 at Featherstone.
Despite having only 11 players, Acorn took the lead and at one stage led 18-8, Callum Hannigan, man of the match Kyle Brown and Gareth Smith all kicking goals.
Good running from Carl Loft, debutant Eddie Smith and Ryan Hamilton caught the eye for Acorn.
Despite being up against a larger Dudley Hill side, York Acorn U8s won by six tries to four - Harry Bromwich scoring all the tries.
Bromwich, Zac Agnew and Josh Potter were the top tacklers with George Andrews named man of the match.
Against a good Wetherby side, Acorn U10s never got going and went down 28-4.
Ryan Gallagher scored Acorn's only try with Jordan Lawrence named man of the match and Tim Winn's tackling keeping his team in the match.
Footballer Thomas Garnett switched codes to join New Earswick All Blacks U9s for his first game of rugby league and was named man of the match in the 9-5 defeat against Hunslet Parkside.
Top tackler Jordan Bracewell scored two tries with other touchdowns coming from Sam Gell (2) and Sam Halmshaw. David Dodsworth was All Blacks' most improved player.
