York Acorn 'A' are flying high at the top of Pennine League Division Five after their 38-2 away win at Wetherby.
However, it was not an easy ride.
They were made to work hard for their win by a resilient Wetherby side.
Impressive performances from joint man-of-the-match winners Mick Calam and Rich Warren helped to steady the Acorn ship and a true team display helped to steer Acorn to their sixth straight win of the season.
With points coming from Paul Sawyer, Chris Caufield, Alex Cowton, Andy Gargan, Rich Scott and Rich Warren, this was their hardest-fought win so far this year.
Selby Warriors moved up the table with a 28-24 triumph at struggling Bank Top Harriers in a match controlled by former professional referee Fred Lindop.
Some of his decisions did not endear him to the Selby contingent and by half-time the visitors were 14-6 down.
Playing up the slope in the first period, Sean Barker scored Selby's first try and Mark Hanson kicked the first of his five goals.
Strong tackling by Andrew Fiester and Paul Friar got Selby back into the game and wing man Nick Weaver went over in the corner.
Hanson's conversion trimmed Bank Top's lead to two points and Warriors surged to the front when Ramskill went over from ten yards for a converted try.
The hosts hit back with a try and a penalty to regain the lead before Wayne Fennell scored the try of the match with a kick and chase from near his own line.
With eight minutes remaining it was locked at 24-24 and Hanson got the winner when his weaving run ended in a score near the corner.
New Earswick All Blacks Under-13s defeated an injury-hit Acorn team by 66-0 in a local cup match.
Top quality defence gave the Acorn team little time to settle and the New Earswick side ran in 15 tries without reply.
Man of the match James Bromwich led Earswick's defensive line, while among the try-scorers were Ben Johnson (3), Taz Fernandez (2) and Luke Watling (2).
New Earswick U11s ran riot against Wetherby, storming to a 42-10 victory with tries by Joel Johnson (2), Jake Mawer (2), Adam Johnson, Dean Layton, Connor Thirlway and Liam Dawson.
Goals were kicked by Joel Johnson, Adam Johnson, J Atkinson, Tom Baron and Liam Dawson. Gavin Winskill was All Blacks' most improved player.
Heworth ARL U8s narrowly lost out to neighbours All Blacks in a competitive encounter at White Rose Avenue.
For Heworth, Liam Forshaw took the man of the match award with three tries with others coming from Peter Moss (2), and Michael Connor.
Baxter Hackett was the most improved player, Joseph Jackson and Mathew Little topped the tackle count.
Try scorers for Acorn were top tackler Liam Lowson (4), Natasha Turne and Declan Calam (2).
The most improved players were Zac Johnson and Nathan Balcomb and Acorn's man of the match was Jack Ireland.
