York City striker Jon Parkin is facing a double whammy after receiving his marching orders in the 0-0 draw at Scunthorpe United.
Brass was due to study the incident on the match video this afternoon but unless City decide to appeal against the red card, issued after the striker flailed an arm at United defender Cliff Byrne, Parkin is facing a three-match ban - at least.
The suspension could be longer because of Parkin's pre-season red card for violent conduct against Scottish premier division club Livingston.
And to make matters worse for the target man, Parkin's enforced lay-off will mean he will miss City's eagerly anticipated FA Cup first round tie at home to his former club, Barnsley, on November 8.
It will be a massive blow to Barnsley-born Parkin, a fact not lost on City chief Chris Brass.
"It is unfortunate for Jon but if he has done it then he perhaps will now learn from it," said the City player-boss. "He has not said a great deal about it and he was quiet on Saturday.
"He could be out for longer than three games though because of his red card for a similar charge in pre-season."
The clash with the Tykes, riding high in Division Two, is sure to attract another bumper crowd for City, coming just a week before their all-ticket clash with Doncaster Rovers at Bootham Crescent.
It is possible the FA Cup tie will be made all ticket, with a decision expected to be made early this week.
Brass admitted City were facing a hard battle to book a place in round two but was delighted with the home draw.
"It is another derby and how many are we going to get this season?" enthused Brass.
"But we are at home and you always want a home tie. We will certainly look forward to it and we are playing well enough at home.
"Hopefully, they will bring a few supporters over and it will make for a good atmosphere.
"They have started well in Division Two and it will certainly be interesting to see how we do and how far we have come this season."
While Parkin will have to watch the tie from the stands, the draw provides City midfielder Mitch Ward with a chance to line up against his former club.
Ward was skipper at Barnsley until joining City on a free transfer in the summer.
Scarborough have been drawn at home to in-form Football League neighbours Doncaster Rovers in another North v South Yorkshire tie.
Saturday's 3-1 victory over Hinckley United set up the clash and a decision whether to make the Rovers tie an all-ticket affair is due tomorrow.
Doncaster have won their last six matches and are now second in the Division Three table.
Meanwhile Brass has confirmed striker Dean Crowe has returned to Luton Town after his one-month loan spell ended on Saturday.
Crowe failed to score during his time at Bootham Crescent and failed to even make the City squad in their last two matches.
"It was unfortunate it hasn't worked out," said Brass
"He has got an abundance of ability but sometimes this happens and the fact we have big Jon back made the decision a little easier.
"At the same time, I'm going to lose Jon for three games now and I have got to make sure Jon keeps his fitness levels up."
Parkin's dismissal and Crowe's return to Luton could mean Brass may look at the loan market again for a new striker. "It's a possibility depending what happens with the sending off," the City chief said.
