A YORK councillor could not believe his eyes when he saw these signs telling him he was 15 miles from York - when he was already in the city.
Green Coun Mark Hill spotted the signs on a cycle path on Terry Avenue, beneath Skeldergate bridge.
According to the Trans Pennine Trail signs, York is 15 miles away, but Selby merely half a mile.
"I think we should look into whether or not there is another pair of signs at Selby," joked Coun Hill.
A council spokesperson said: "The work has been done by contractors. We will be contacting them today to find out how the mistake has occurred and make sure it is rectified."
The sign forms part of the Trans Pennine cycle trail, which runs through York and Selby on its way from Liverpool to Hull.
Council cycling officer James Harrison said the signs should read: York: a mile, Selby: 15 miles.
