THE first of three volumes and the first time the 59-year-old songwriter/ singer has performed solo in a studio - with his piano.
This is a great treat for Newman fans - the man, his voice, his joanna and searingly caustic lyrics. This is how Randy was meant to be listened to. Having been Oscar-nominated 16 times for his diverse film scores, this man is no slouch. Eighteen early tracks highlight the many musical influences that have struck a note with Newman - rhythm and blues, jazz, ragtime and rock'n'roll. He is a musical genius. Marvel at the haunting sadness of Sail Away, and I Think It's Going To Rain Today. Or chortle sagely at caustic lyrics of The World Isn't Fair and God's Song. Or laugh along to the sexy sway of You Can Keep Your Hat On and his signature song, It's Lonely At The Top. Roll on volumes two and three.
