CHICAGO siblings The Webb Brothers have pilfered the good bits from successful Alt-rock artists to produce an album of real quality.
The styles of Mercury Rev, Super Furry Animals and Grandaddy are borrowed heavily here. Original band members Justin and Christiaan Webb have now recruited James Webb for this, their make or break third outing. The sons of great American song writer Jimmy Webb were clearly taught well by their father. Underscoring their eccentricity and quirky jiggery-pokery is an ability to crack out a memorable pop melody. Just listen to the upbeat A Funny Ol' Kind Of Music and Ms Moriarty. I've Been Waiting is wonderfully put together with a heartfelt vocal and string arrangement that will have you reaching for the repeat button. Who Wants To Get High? should be the album centrepiece with its lazy harmonies and sparkling keyboards, but annoyingly peters out at the end after hinting a dramatic conclusion.
