David Barron, who has enjoyed a stupendous season with his two-year-olds, can add the finishing touches at Doncaster tomorrow by landing a sizeable prize with one of his junior inmates.
Dispol Katie represents the Thirsk trainer in the £30,000 DBS October Yearling Stakes, which is confined to juveniles bought as yearlings this week last year at the sales complex opposite the racecourse.
Dispol Katie has proved a model of consistency this season, winning twice and coming close to a third success on her latest outing at Ripon. Beaten a neck by Out Of Mind, she ran a cracking race, especially as she was conceding the winner the best part of a stone.
Dean Mernagh, the Malton-based jockey, who rides regularly for Barron, again has the mount on Dispol Katie, who is napped to show her rivals the way home.
Flotta makes plenty of appeal in the Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager of The Year Handicap over one and three-quarter miles.
Trained by the in-form Mick Channon, Flotta comes here after a gallant runner-up effort at York, which came close on the heels of a maiden-race win at Musselburgh.
Still on the upgrade, Flotta can get back on top tomorrow under Tony Culhane, who has such a good record on the Channon runners.
Culhane teams up with his former boss, Reg Hollinshead, in the Tote/Racing Post £1m 'Ten To Follow' Nursery and can clinch the honours with Weet A Head.
A lightly-raced juvenile, Weet A Head finished second to the useful Unavailable in a hot nursery at York last time, when he was forced to race wide from his high draw. A smart prospect, he should make a bold bid to go one better here.
At Newbury, the £30,000 Vodafone Horris Hill Stakes, which carries Group 3 status, offers Sabbeeh the chance to gain his third win from four starts.
Taken out of last Saturday's Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket due to fast ground, Sabbeeh turns out here with bright prospects of fulfilling his enormous potential.
He looks a high class performer in the making and is fancied to have the edge over his rivals, which include the ultra-tough Peak To Creek, a thrilling winner under Pat Eddery at York earlier this month.
Dane O'Neill rode two winners at Nottingham yesterday and Ringmoor Down gives him another winning chance in the Q Associates Handicap. A winner over this course and distance in mid-summer, Ringmoor Down had the measure on that occasion of Seel Of Approval, who subsequently failed narrowly to win the Ayr Gold Cup.
Also worth noting at Newbury are Jasmick (2-25), who is overdue a win, and the consistent Free Trip (4-35), another O'Neill mount.
Friday's tips:
