CASH could be on the way to put right a school's crumbling classrooms after a second Government funding bid was approved by City of York Council.
Education councillors have backed the submission to replace temporary classrooms with a new block at Huntington School, after an earlier bid foundered last year.
City of York Council will apply for £2.6 million to go towards a £4.4 million new block to be built at the school. The block will provide joint community and school space for drama, music and PE, specialist youth space including room for an outreach worker and youth club, and new classrooms to replace old temporary units.
"This bid for funding is our priority," said director of leisure and education Patrick Scott.
Executive member for education Carol Runciman said: "I am happy to support this bid. We need to make the most of these opportunities."
