In response to your article ('Short-term traffic solutions vital', October 16) one of the best options would be to turn York into a complete one-way system.
A bus lane could be installed on all major routes into York; all YO post code drivers could be issued with permits for their cars so if they need to park in York centre they can do so, then all outsiders could be made to use Park & Ride.
If this were carried out the number of cars coming into York would fall, because if people were sitting in traffic day in, day out with buses passing them and running on time, they would rethink their travelling arrangements.
The outer ring road could be one-way and it would keep traffic moving.
