I think there is general agreement among fans that the recent ticket price increase has not been handled as well as it could be but David Reynolds' letter calling for the resignation of York City chairman Steve Beck (October 15) is ridiculous.
A major factor behind the £1 rise is that of those who took up John Batchelor's disastrous offer of half price season tickets, barely half have paid the difference after being requested by the club.
People like Mr Reynolds should consider it was only a year ago that Steve received that fateful phone call from Keith Usher asking to accompany him to the training ground so he could break the news to the players that they weren't going to be paid. Surely that in itself speaks volumes to the regard the players held Steve Beck in even back then.
Since then, Steve Beck with the support of his wife, has work tirelessly for the York City cause and is held in the highest esteem by every fan I speak to. Indeed, combined with his accountancy experience there is probably no-one better qualified for the role and long may his position at the helm of York City continue.
