YORK and Japan's cultural and business links were celebrated at a special reception at the Mansion House.
His Excellency Masaki Orita, the Ambassador of Japan, was guest of honour at the event which was attended by about 60 city dignitaries.
York & County Press publisher Liz Page presented the ambassador with a framed front page of Wednesday's Evening Press supplement, produced to mark his visit.
Mrs Page said: "He was very pleased and thanked us. He said he had visited York before as a tourist and was very much enjoying his return visit."
The reception was hosted by the Sheriff of York, Coun Keith Orrell, who spoke of York's outward-looking nature and the importance of forging links.
The ambassador is making a two-day visit to the city to increase cultural and industrial relations between Japan and the north of England.
His visit continued today with a visit to the Jorvik Viking Centre and York Science Park.
