York Opera gives a 7.30pm concert of opera excerpts from Russian and East European works on Sunday (19th) at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre, York.
Musical director Alasdair Jamieson says: "This repertoire is, perhaps, less well known than the German and Italian corpus but features music by some of the greatest composers: Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Dvorak and Smetana."
The excerpts range from Rusalka's Song To The Moon by Dvorak and Mussorgsky's The Coronation Of Boris Godunov to the more obscure Mlada by Rimsky-Korsakov's and Borodin's Prince Igor. The solos, ensembles and choruses will be accompanied on the piano by Jamieson and John Warburton.
Tickets for York Opera In Concert cost £7, concessions £6, from York Theatre Royal, tel 01904 623568, or on the door.
