YORK City's youth team won their first game of the season last night, and couldn't have picked a better time to taste victory.
The City youngsters beat rivals Hull City 1-0 after extra time on a night of high drama at Bootham Crescent to book their place in the second round of the FA Youth Cup.
City will fancy their chances of reaching the third round after being handed another home tie.
The young Minstermen will play Macclesfield on Wednesday, November 5, kick-off 7pm. Macclesfield beat Blackpool 3-2 in their first round tie.
The hero for City last night was first-year midfielder Byron Webster.
The youngster, from Sherburn-in-Elmet, struck a tremendous right foot volley from 25 yards five minutes into extra-time to send City through after the teams could not be separated in normal time.
With Kane Ashcroft and Webster dominating the midfield, City shaded possession throughout the tie although it was the visitors who had the better chances.
Gary Anderson and Michael Staley in particular were outstanding at the back for City but the Minstermen were grateful to goalkeeper David Stockdale for keeping the Tigers at bay.
Second-year trainee Stockdale showed safe handling throughout and produced a string of fine saves to deny Hull's danger man Russell Fry.
After Webster's wonder strike, Hull pressed but could find no way through a determined City rearguard.
