HAVING attended most of the 39 consultation panel meetings, I agree that the public consultation for the new village in Osbaldwick has been a "sham" (September 26).
The response from Osbaldwick Parish Council, Meadlands Area Residents' Association, the York Natural Environment Trust and readers' letters about this proposal is ample proof that all is not well.
Project manager Ian Atkinson says "the implications for the community had been raised" but the true implications are only revealed after scrutiny of the deposited outline plan
Thousands of cubic metres of spoil and contaminated material from the electricity grid site will have to be removed by lorries using existing roads.
It also states that the Osbaldwick junction with Tang Hall Lane is at capacity now; Temple Avenue/Lang Avenue will become a one way system; the road through Osbaldwick village and into Murton Way will be dug up to upgrade the foul drainage system; the site flood risk assessment is incomplete and Meadlands area will be subjected to a significant increase in traffic, noise and pollution.
These are important issues that will affect local people and existing communities. City of York Council and the Joseph Rowntree Foundation have so far failed to address these concerns. They have a duty to do so.
