I COULD not believe my eyes when I saw the picture of yet another swing bridge being hoisted into position on the forthcoming Selby bypass (October 2).
The idea of the by-pass is not only to avoid the town itself, but the dreaded existing swing toll bridge which has caused hold-ups for decades.
I am sure we have the technoogy to design a bridge to go over the river high enough to allow free-flowing river traffic along with free-flowing road traffic above. Is this a clear sign of Government penny-pinching after the billions drained from road users in fuel and road licence taxes?
