IN reference to the Evening Press (Wednesday, October 1) York City Knights RLFC report under the headline Ace of Clubs about their stunning achievements. What achievements? More like York City Knights joker of the pack.
This season was over when they lost to Gateshead at home on the opening week. Then we had the debacle of the London game where another valuable point was lost. From that point onwards we were always playing catch-up.
York City Knights have had enough quality playing staff this season to win that league outright. They have also enjoyed the best support (1,200-plus). It's just as well we now have National League One and National League Two. If we were under one division with teams like Salford, Leigh and Rochdale to play, I dread to think what the outcome would have been.
The play-off game against Barrow was awful. When the time came for a big performance we were found wanting. The games we did win in the season mean nothing if you don't win the play-offs. It's back to the drawing board again and another season of National League Two football - hardly what I would call stunning achievements.
