A MEMBER of a burglary gang which snatched loot worth £1,500 from a York house has been jailed for 14 months.
Jeremy Hill-Baker, prosecuting, told York Crown Court how Stephen Ashes, 21, arrived with his accomplices in a van at a house in Hempland Lane, Heworth, in broad daylight.
They drove off with items worth £1,518.
Self-confessed cocaine addict Ashes, of Seventh Avenue, Tang Hall, pleaded guilty to burglary and was jailed for 14 months. His barrister David Cadman said he had been on drugs since he was 11, starting with cannabis and moving on to heroin and cocaine.
He was exactly the type of person who should be on a drug testing and treatment order, but drug professionals had decided he was not sufficiently motivated for one.
Although a lot of property had been stolen, Ashes had only got a video recorder out of it, which he had sold.
