I WOULD like to congratulate the management committee of the Joseph Rowntree Theatre on the refurbishment of the auditorium.
Now the seating and carpeting has been done, it makes you feel that you should take off your shoes when entering the theatre.
Unfortunately, it makes the front stage curtain look shabby. A new one in blue and gold would complete the picture.
I would also like to congratulate Shipton Theatre Company on a brilliant 42nd Street; Scott Garnham heading a brilliant cast. I hope that since he has turned professional, he will not desert York audiences.
The orchestra played well, but I wonder if violinists have become redundant, as all brass sometimes drowned a solo singer. Well done all.

...DESERVED individual praise was given in your review of Shipton Theatre Company's production of 42nd Street.
Laurie Scarth's choreography was excellent with such a large cast.
The dancing throughout was a joy, fast flowing and a credit to an amateur company.
Some professional shows appear to restrict chorus members to save money, not so here. So this performance, with beautiful costumes, was a real pleasure.
Why not put bottoms on these lovely new seats?
