THANK you for your leader "Restore the pension link" and your article (October 1). Mr Parlabean points to a very useful weapon in the hands of pensioners in their fights for common justice in the annual pension review.
However, I fear that only something with great dramatic effect will spur our discredited politicians of all colours to allow us oldies the same increments as of right, that they grant themselves.
When MPs feel that their pensions are eroding they have a nice little get together and vote a remedy through! Could we have a similar body from the ranks of older citizens with rights to order any necessary action?
A huge number of pensioners are marginally above the line drawn by the Treasury mandarins but because we have struggled to fund our later years by ever-depreciating savings, we must grin and bear it as our living standards erode. A vastly different picture to the world of the Government and local government employee with their index links.
The sooner the oldies organise and as a body refuse to pay what is in effect a further tax by the back door, the better. Empty the coffers and they will soon move. Mr Bayley and Mr Grogan you mention as being concerned, well let's have some action and less of the concern.
See you in jail with all the other over seventies!
