THIS book tells in their own words what the people who were involved thought about the bloody conflict which erupted because Charles I wouldn't listen to them.
The author sets the scene in chronological order of events before letting the participants describe affairs.
Although deliberately Anglo-centric, the contents are not all English. Scottish and Irish theatres of war are included where, states the author, "they enlighten the English aspect". Well presented in small sections and excellently illustrated, this is as close as you will get in one handy volume to hearing the voice of the people who were there.
