STAY glued to the news about Rigid Corrugated at Selby.
A brand new multi-thousand pound case-maker with edge-of-science glue application has just been moved into the plant in East Common Lane.
The advanced Martin 618 machine will faultlessly fold, square up and print boxes at blurring speed, boosting annual production to about 36 million boxes.
It is part of a massive investment programme by parent company VPK Packaging which will culminate in a new world class facility replacing the old Rigid Corrugated plant on land opposite the Tate & Lyle sugar factory.
Once the first phase of the project is completed next spring, the new plant will be one of the most modern corrugated manufacturing units in the UK.
It will create an extra 50 jobs bringing the total workforce to 175.
Rigid operates twin production sites in the UK - at Selby and Desborough.
