A group of Croatian businessmen have gleaned examples of best practice in the waste management industry by visiting North Yorkshire.
The Croatian delegation is pictured here being shown two facilities operated near York by Northallerton-based waste management company Yorwaste, as part of a week-long fact-finding trip in the UK.
The trip aims to give the Croatians a better understanding of all aspects of waste management so they can successfully implement a much-needed waste management programme in their own country.
The delegation saw Yorwaste's integrated waste management facility at Harewood Whin, before going on to the company's Materials Recycling Facility at Hessay.
At Harewood Whin they noted examples of a landfill operation, composting and wood recycling and at Hessay they learned how materials such as paper, bottles and cans are recycled.
Steve Grieve, Yorwaste managing director, said: "We hope they go away with not only a better understanding of waste management, but with some ideas of how they can use the good practice we apply to our sites to their own programme."
