A COUNTDOWN to Christmas has begun at a York garage to launch a children's charity project.
Dixon Rover is replacing the 12 drummers drumming of the traditional Yuletide song with 12 parts people prancing as they kick off this year's Operation Christmas Child campaign.
With 12 weeks to go to Christmas the garage has recreated the 12 Days of Christmas to start the scheme collecting gift-filled shoe boxes.
The team at the Jockey Lane dealership is now asking the people of York to look ahead to the festive period and support the international charity.
Last year, Dixon garages in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire collected more than 15,000 shoeboxes for the charity to distribute to needy children across the globe.
"We are hoping that public support will help to smash this total this year," said a Dixon spokesman.
To give further support to the project the team will visit participating schools and businesses to collect the gift-filled shoe boxes.
