A PASSER-BY could not believe his eyes when he discovered a human skeleton lying at the back of a York church.
But thankfully the frightening sight at St Deny's Church, Walmgate, was an anatomical skeleton stolen from a nearby vehicle.
It had been taken by thieves who broke into a hire van parked in nearby St Deny's Court, leaving a valuable laptop computer behind on the front seat.
The owner, a medical student from Newcastle, only discovered the theft at 7pm yesterday, by which time the life-size study aid had been recovered by York Police.
A York Police spokesman said the theft was "unusual", and added that he was pleased the motorist had been able to recover his property.
