RECORDS were falling today as bikers from across the country came to York to set new British land speeds.
A field of seven riders assembled at Elvington Airfield in the first open field event in York for seven years.
Alan Tinian broke the first record of the day on his Yamaha 1000cc superbike, knocking two seconds off his British record for a kilometre from a standing start.
Other entries ranged from the quickest scooter in the country - a Lambretta with a top speed of 110mph - to a Vincent motorbike and sidecar.
Records of more than 200mph were attempted.
"For all of us it's about the incredible feeling of going that fast," said organiser Trevor Duckworth.
