WHAT a relief! Only 30 asylum seekers in the whole of York and the UK is apparently one of the last places to which they want to come (EP, September 17). So that's all right then.
It was only a few days ago that the Home Secretary was admitting that he "hadn't a clue" how many illegal immigrants were in the country and he is to introduce compulsory identification cards in a belated attempt to bring some semblance of control to the situation. All this is unnecessary, apparently, according to the Evening Press.
Can you not see that by deliberately underestimating the size and seriousness of this problem, indeed by pretending that no such problems exist, you are driving people into the arms of the BNP?
