TWO men were killed when their car collided with a tractor and trailer crossing the A19 on the edge of the North York Moors.
Two other men miraculously escaped with slight injuries and did not require hospital treatment after the horrific crash, near Northallerton.
Police said the Peugeot 206 GTi was travelling north when it crashed into the agricultural vehicle as it crossed the central reservation close to the Haynes Arms pub, at Kirby Sigston.
The tractor driver was arrested by police officers at the scene after receiving treatment for slight injuries from paramedics. He was today expected to be interviewed at Northallerton police station.
Inspector Mark Rhodes said: "The car was involved in a collision with a tractor and trailer crossing the central reservation from the north to southbound carriageway."
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said all four men were believed to be from outside the county, possibly from the North East.
