YORK RUFC Under-16s bowed out at the semi-final stage of the East Coast 10s to a 'golden' try in extra time against Grimsby.
In the group stages York started with a 19-0 win over Hessle
with tries from Henry Appleton, Matthew Rowson and Tom Bewick, and two conversions from Nathan Forrest.
A 12-0 defeat against hosts Bridlington in their second match was followed by a try fest against Lincoln 'B' with York winning 50-0.
Tries came from Callum Cook, Bewick (2), Forrest, Andrew Barker, Appleton, Daryl Fogg and Rowson, with Forrest adding five conversions.
York completed their group games with a 14-5 win over Hull to secure second place. Bewick and Adam Milner grabbed the tries with Forrest converting both.
The semi-final against Grimsby saw a fine first half defensive display from the York boys and only one try conceded. York took the game to Grimsby in
the second period and Chris Woolley bagged a well deserved equalising try.
With the game all square at 5-5 on the full time whistle theteams moved into extra time.
A tense period of play ensued with Grimsby finally breaking the stalemate with a 'golden' try.
York took third place overall in the tournament in which the Lincoln first-string conceded without a ball being kicked.
