AN anguished grandmother today pleaded with her missing daughter and son-in-law to get back in touch with her and their ten-year-old daughter.
Christine Allen and husband, Nicholas, of York, sparked a nationwide search when they went missing with their 14-year-old daughter, Lisa Marie, leaving behind her sister Georgie May, ten.
They contacted police to say they were safe and well after hearing of the national hunt.
But, despite police requests, the couple have yet to phone home to speak to Pauline Allen, Pauline's husband, David, or Georgie May.
Pauline said today she feared that embarrassment and shame could be stopping Christine and Nicholas from contacting her.
She says Georgie May is being torn apart, and begged: "Forget what's happened - please get in touch."
The Allens' drama began to unfold when Christine disappeared from the family home in Thoresby Road, Acomb, York, on September 15. A local police appeal was issued because Christine was believed to be depressed.
But the disappearance was followed several days later by that of Nicholas and 14-year-old Lisa Marie.
Georgie May was left behind with Pauline and David, along with family pets including eight Yorkshire terriers and several rabbits.
Police have said they believe the family may have had financial worries.
Pauline is now distraught that she has not yet heard any news.
"I want to reunite the family - we were all so happy together before they left," she said. "The only contact I've had with them is through the police. They've tried and tried to get them to contact us, but to no avail. "I can only think they won't come back because they feel shame for disappearing.
"Hopefully their conscience will be pricked by Georgie and they will come home. She is missing her sister terribly."
Pauline, who still has "no idea" why they went, says she was forced to give away some of the family pets to good homes as she can't cope.
"Lisa's dog Timmy has been pining for her," she said.
She said Georgie had now returned to Westfield Primary School.
Christine's brother, Peter Allen, added: "I would obviously like her to get in touch to let us know she is all right."
Pauline said Christine and Nicholas had both worked at the Del Monte factory near Skelton and appeared very happy there.
South Yorkshire Police officers have visited the family and were satisfied that no member was in any danger.
