CAMPAIGNERS were today bringing their fight to lower the speed limit outside an East Yorkshire primary school to the county's councillors.
Worried parents were urging councillors at a meeting of East Riding of Yorkshire Council's Health, Environment, Overview and Scrutiny Committee to scrap the 40mph speed limit outside St Martin's Church of England Primary School at Fangfoss, near Pocklington.
Fang-FUSS (Fangfoss Upgrades School Safety) believes the current speed limit is too high and could result in a serious accident. They are calling for it to be replaced with a new 20mph limit outside the school and a 30mph limit in the rest of the village.
Two ten-year-old pupils from the school were expected to give a presentation to councillors using Powerpoint software. Members of the group were handing over a 300-name petition, calling for the speed limit to be changed. The campaign has already received the backing of East Yorkshire MP Greg Knight and villagers have pledged to voluntarily observe the speed limit desired by the community.
