ON Monday we reported how arsonists had targeted empty homes in Acomb, York. Residents told us that young hooligans had been attracted to the derelict properties and were making their lives a misery.
The way forward was clear, and we said so: improve security on the site, and bring forward the demolition plans.
So we are delighted that City of York Council and the developers S Harrison are drawing up plans to demolish the vacant homes sooner rather than later. Both deserve credit for responding to residents' complaints.
The council expects the hooliganism will disappear with the old houses.
Long-suffering locals will hope so.
