CITY of York Hockey Club's first team wound up their pre-season programme with a 2-1 defeat at home against Cannock II.
Cannock led 1-0 at half-time and, although Richard Jenkins played well as York enjoyed territorial supremacy in the second half, Cannock doubled their led with a breakaway goal.
York kept plugging away and were rewarded with a short corner strike by Glyn Humphrey which rocketed into the roof of the net.

It was also honours even when City of York VI drew 3-3 at home to Hull VI with goals from Clive Mills-Hicks, Tom Marvin and Adam Saltonstall. Hull's equaliser came from a short corner in added time. Stuart Burke had a good game for York.
Tadcaster beat a combined York VII/VIII side 3-2. York's marksmen were Tim Jolley and Richard Tanner-Smith. Tad's winner came five minutes from the end with TC Conner's second goal of the game. Tad had taken the lead through Rob Hill.
City of York Ladies drew 1-1 at Hull in the first of two weekend pre-season friendlies.
Playing on a new water-based pitch at the Kingston Communications Stadium complex, York took the lead through Sally Sleightholme just before the break, Hull equalising late in the game.
In Sunday's home game, York came back from an early Don Valley goal to take a 3-1 half-time lead when Sleightholme scored a hat-trick, all touched in from crosses.
Kate Rorrison and Mandy Nesbit added further goals in the second half to give York a 5-1 win against their South Yorkshire visitors.
Sarah Peddar scored the only goal of the game as Tadcaster Ladies beat Bingley Bees 1-0.
Tadcaster, who will be playing in the Yorkshire League first division for the first time, coped well against a side who played in the premier division and were rewarded when Peddar knocked in Susie Richmond's long corner.
